Scientist unveiled the world’s fastest supercomputer named the “Roadrunner” built largely by engineers at the IBM plant in Poughkeepsie, NY. This supercomputer will be installed at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico.
The Laboratory is the largest institute in Northern New Mexico and one of the world’s leading research facilities. Since its creation the primary responsibility of the lab has been to maintain the effectiveness of the nation’s nuclear deterrent. Los Alamos enhances national security by ensuring the safety and reliability of the U.S. nuclear stockpile, developing technologies to reduce threats from weapons of mass destruction and solving problems related to energy, environment, infrastructure, health and global security concerns.
