New York Stock Exchange Selects Piller Hybrid Rotary UPS Technology

30th April 2009, NYSE Euronext who operates the worlds leading and most liquid exchange group, including a family of exchangers located in six countries, has once again chosen Piller UPS systems to provide uninterrupted power to the New York stock exchange at a new data centre located in the UK, which will ultimately comprise of seven halls.

Piller UK will be supplying a total of 140 UNIBLOCK UBRW 625kVA and 420kVA UPS units each with in-built water cooling, totalling over 65 MW – power enough for the annual consumption of electricity of the 9 million people on the island of Haiti. The first phase of the project is scheduled for installation in the second quarter of 2009.

The UNIBLOCK UBRW was selected owing to its built in water-cooling which eliminates the need for expensive air conditioning or ventilation measures where chilled water is readily available. It has a remarkably small footprint, lower operating cost and environmental benefits including near silent operation. More and more operators are turning to green solutions that provide an overall advantage for high power needs, where mains electrical supply disturbances are a major threat to business and the resulting loss of income or data is often disastrous. Based on a study by UK CIBSE (Chartered institution of Building Services Engineers) a Piller rotary UPS system is 10 times less likely to fail compared to a conventional UPS system.

The client is an existing Piller user and has Piller-DHR modules in other buildings which have been in successful operation for more than two decades.
